The Lie About Maeng Da Kratom

It doesn’t exist.

Wait, what?!?

You’re probably wondering – what was that Green vein Kratom I took this morning?

No, that’s not what I’m talking about, I know you know the name of the strain. However, while the name “Maeng Da” exists, it is only used as a marketing tool for your benefit.

The name was made up a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away where there were many vendors vying for control amongst the Kratom community. A better strain name meant more exposure and more sales. In fact, Maeng Da means “pimp” or “pimp grade” in Thai, and vendors took advantage by naming certain Maeng Da strains to increase their Kratom sales because it created more buzz about potency levels, making people believe it was stronger.

It meant the vendor was scrounging the globe coming up with new features for their Kratom users to try. And they loved it, after all, isn’t that what marketing is all about? Hmmm…

Yes, marketing exists for a reason, but consumers should also be aware of what they are really purchasing. The name Maeng Da, is simply a branding tool used to attract your attention.

What Really Happened…

First of all, just like every other Kratom strain, all Kratom comes from red leaves.

That’s right, each and every strain you love and enjoy is determined by the drying process the harvester uses, but it all comes from red leaves.

The drying process creates your favorite strain color of red, green, or white strain. A lot of the variations in Kratom powder has mostly to do with how the leaf is dried (whether it is dried indoors or outdoors, makes a big difference). Other variables include: how it is fermented, how much sunlight, lamplight, or UV light it had been exposed to.

More important factors to consider in this process is the location, the soil content, and whether the tree was in a rainy season that year or not.

Just for your knowledge, the rainy season usually produces leaves which are a little less potent for the user. It’s also important to note the vein color makes no difference in effect or strength of the end result. It’s only this process of drying which does this.

Here’s the way it works:

  • Greens are dried inside in an air-conditioned room with little to no light/lamp. After this, they are dried outside for an hour or so.
  • Whites are usually made by drying the leaf entirely indoors (generally no light), while reds are made either from sunlight/lamp (UV light) or fermentation.
  • Yellows are usually created by blending other strains together, like a red/green mix.

A lot of the time, Green and Red Maeng Da Kratom are blends that have white vein in it. Adding white makes the strain stronger, which is the supplier’s main reason for using this recipe. This is why a lot of people report Red Maeng Da to be a “day-time red”.

What does Maeng Da mean?

The name “Maeng Da” is from the Thai language which means “pimp”. Natives began calling this specific plant this name because of the genetically enhanced (and expertly dried) hybrid of the Kratom tree in Thailand. It is known as the one Kratom plant which contains more alkaloids than any of its original brother and sister Kratom leaves in this region.

Where does Maeng Da Come from?

Originally the word “Maeng Da” came from a run on the Kratom industry. Farmers and vendors alike began coining a new term “Maeng Da” as a marketing tactic to enhance sales and gain further attraction in their specific brand of leaf. In essence, Maeng Da is just a word we use to explain a very powerful and potent strain of Kratom. However, the end result of this fact shares the expertise of the processing in which this leaf undergoes, which is one of the reasons Maeng Da is a very popular choice among consumers.

What strains of Kratom is Maeng Da from?

About 99% of all Kratom strains come from red vein leaves. Each and every strain you enjoy, no matter the vein color, has been manipulated by the drying process of the harvester and/or vendor. It is here you can truly understand the skills and expertise level. The process in which Maeng Da, and other strains of Kratom go through in order to arrive at a form of enhanced powder you enjoy.

Is Maeng Da stronger than Bali Kratom?

There are lots of variables at play when the discussion points to which strain is more potent and powerful. One of these variables is a person’s physical makeup and how the body metabolizes the leaf. Bali Kratom vs Maeng Da Kratom comes down to the drying process. Red strains of Kratom are usually dried longer therefore producing more potency through this process while green vein is not put through this process as long. In essence, red strains are a little more powerful than green because of the expertly dried process it goes through. However, once dried, green vein has its own powerful properties as well which is why there are two camps of people who love both of these amazing strains.
